Team-up and take up the challenge!

Prince’s Trust 'Team' provides a unique personal development programme, which will enable you to gain qualifications, develop confidence, motivation and skills through teamwork in the community. The programme runs full-time over 12-weeks (60 working days) and is an intensive challenge designed to bring out the best in you.

Week 1: Induction, target-setting, first aid and food hygiene sessions

This week consists of you deciding upon the areas you would like to improve upon as part of your personal development. These areas might include: taking responsibility, caring for others, communication and leadership. You will also meet new team mates, develop teamworking and Health and Safety skills.

Week 2: Residential (outdoor activities & other team building activities)

This stage includes a one-week residential experience which is designed to bring your group together as a Team.  This week may include activities such as: Abseiling, Rock Climbing, Oridenteering, Ravine Crossing, Caving, Problem Solving Activities and Team Building Games.

Weeks 3 to 6: Find, plan, fundraise & implement a locally based community project

As a team, you will agree on a project for which you will work together to raise the funds needed to complete the project.  Fundraising activities may include Car Washes, Bag Packs, and / or Sponsored Walks.

The community project is like your very own “Changing Rooms” or “Ground Force”. Your team is now really beginning to work together! When you have decided on a project, you will have 4 weeks to raise the funds, equipment and additional expertise to complete your chosen project and hand it over. You must work effectively as a team against tight deadlines to ensure that you complete on time.  Previous projects have included gardening, painting, decorating, and many other things.  However, what each of these projects have had in common is the fact that they have helped people in the local community.

Weeks 7 to 8: A chance to gain some practical work experience

To continue to give you the opportunity to meet your individual goals you will be given the chance to spend 2 weeks on an individual placement which will support the local community whilst at the same time giving you a worthwhile but challenging experience and developing your own skills.  You will be encouraged to find your own work placement, but don't worry as we are always on hand to help you with this.

Week 9: Intensive job search awareness week  ("Next Steps")

We assist you in the development of CV's, interview skills and the 'job application process'. We will help you look at your future and look at ways how we can improve your chances of employment or further education / training.

You will also be offered the opportunity to undertake a mock interview, which will hopefully give you confidence for when you come to have the real thing!!

Weeks 10 to 11: Team challenge benefiting people from the local community

Towards the end of the 12-week period you re-form into your team. The final team challenges need to be both mentally and physically demanding, but you as a team will choose what you do.

This might include arranging an activity for people with learning difficulties or assisting those less fortunate in our community.

Week 12: Course completion - Presentation of certificates
This is an opportunity to celebrate both your own and the team’s achievements. The team will organise and carry out a presentation to invited guests highlighting the highs and lows of the previous 12 weeks. Individually you may also speak to your audience about your own experiences and aspirations. You may also be awarded your certificates by an invited guest of honour.

After the programme approximately 70% of young people enter employment, return to education or training*. If you would like a more in depth introduction to each week of the programme you can download our latest 12-week booklet.
